A quiet stretch of rural Vance County turned into a crime scene before sunrise when a man was shot and killed at a home just southeast of Henderson, authorities said.
Deputies with the Vance County Sheriff’s Office responded to reports of gunfire around 3 a.m. at a home in the 400 block of Lemay Lane, about two miles from Henderson. They found 33-year-old James Boggs inside and pronounced him dead at the scene with at least one gunshot wound, according to CBS17. The shooting happened off Faulkner Town Road, east of Rock Mill Road near N.C. 39, the sheriff’s office said.
Investigation underway
The Vance County Sheriff’s Office called the killing an isolated incident, telling residents there is no broader threat to the public. The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation has joined the sheriff’s office in treating the death as a homicide, and deputies said the case remains an active investigation, according to CBS17.
