Pre-dawn gunfire shattered the quiet in Fells Point on Thursday, leaving one man wounded and neighbors once again asking what it will take to calm South Broadway after dark.
Police say officers were called to the 200 block of South Broadway just after 2:30 a.m. for a report of a shooting. When they arrived, they found a man suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. He was rushed to a local hospital, where his injury was described as non-life-threatening.
According to FOX45 (WBFF), officers responded around 2:37 a.m., and Central District detectives are now handling the case. Investigators are asking anyone with information to call them directly at 410-396-2411 or reach out through Metro Crime Stoppers at 1-866-7LOCKUP.
South Broadway’s Late-Night Trouble Pattern
The shooting unfolded along a stretch of South Broadway that is usually packed with bar patrons and late-night crowds, and that has already seen its share of trouble this year. The area has been the scene of repeated late-night fights and earlier gun incidents, stirring fresh worries among residents and business owners.
Those concerns spiked in March, when cellphone video captured a large street brawl on the same block, as detailed in South Broadway brawl has Fells Point on edge. Longtime neighbors and merchants have questioned whether current patrol levels and the city’s Entertainment District policing strategy are doing enough to rein in the weekend chaos.
