Two men were rushed to the hospital after a pre-dawn attack in Sunset Park on Thursday, with one clinging to life and the other expected to pull through. Officers arrived just before 5 a.m. to the intersection of 50th Street and Sixth Avenue, where they found the wounded men and began canvassing the area for witnesses.
Police discovered one victim with multiple stab wounds across his body and a second man who had been slashed in the neck and across his torso. Both were taken to Lutheran Hospital, according to News12 New York. The man who was slashed is expected to survive, while the stabbing victim remains in critical condition. No arrests were immediately reported as the investigation got underway.
Police Hunt Man in Black
The intersection falls within the NYPD's 72nd Precinct, which patrols Sunset Park, and detectives were out early talking to neighbors and looking for cameras that may have captured the attack or the aftermath. "Police say they are looking for a man dressed in all black who fled on foot towards 6th Avenue," News12 New York reported. Investigators are asking anyone with footage or details to come forward as they work to track the suspect.
Latest in Spate of Local Slashings
Thursday’s stabbing and slashing is the latest knife-related violence to hit the neighborhood this month. Earlier in May, a machete slashing outside a Fifth Avenue storefront left another man wounded, though that victim was expected to recover. Victims from street assaults in Sunset Park are commonly taken to NYU Langone Hospital-Brooklyn, a major emergency center at 150 55th Street.
