A juvenile was wounded early last Saturday in a shooting on Detroit’s west side, according to police, after gunfire broke out in the middle of the night on Winthrop Street.
Officers were called just before 3 a.m. to the 15400 block of Winthrop, where they found the wounded youth. The victim was taken to a hospital, and the injuries were described as not life-threatening.
Police Say Suspect Is Cooperating
According to CBS Detroit, the Detroit Police Department said the suspected shooter is cooperating with investigators. It was not immediately clear whether that person had been detained or formally arrested.
Detectives have not released the juvenile’s age or any other identifying details while they continue to gather information about what led up to the shooting.
West Side Kids Have Been Caught In Gunfire Before
Children being caught in gunfire on Detroit’s west side is not a new story. In February 2023, a 7-year-old was shot and hospitalized in another incident on the west side, as reported by FOX 2 Detroit. Cases like that one have fueled ongoing worries about gunfire near homes and parks in some neighborhoods.
