Harris County Precinct 4 deputies say they showed up just in time on Monday morning, stopping an active home burglary and hauling two people away in handcuffs. Responding to a report of a break-in, deputies said they arrived to find a front door forced open and a residence in the middle of being ransacked.
Quick Response Ends Burglary In Progress
Deputy Balanta was among the first on scene and, along with other patrol units, detained two people at the home after confirming the forced entry, according to the constable's office. The agency credited a "quick response" and "strong teamwork" for shutting down the alleged burglary before the suspects could get away.
Both individuals were booked on burglary of a habitation and interference with public duties charges, Mark Herman, Harris County Constable Precinct 4, said in a social media post as investigators worked the scene.
What The Charges Actually Cover
In Texas, burglary of a habitation is a felony that covers unlawful entry into a home with intent to commit theft or another crime. A conviction can bring multi-year prison sentences, depending on the circumstances and criminal history.
Interference with public duties is a separate charge that applies when someone is accused of interrupting, impeding, or otherwise getting in the way of a peace officer or other public servant while they are doing their job. The specific elements and penalties are laid out in the state statutes; see the Texas Penal Code §30.02 and the Texas Penal Code §38.15 on interference with public duties.
How Residents Can Track Updates
Precinct 4 frequently pushes out real-time incident details, traffic notes, and neighborhood safety alerts on its social channels and via its C4 NOW mobile platform, a practice highlighted in coverage of the constable's tech upgrades and high-tech patrol and alert tools. For official booking data or custody status, the Harris County Sheriff's Office online inmate search is updated regularly.
Investigators had not yet publicly released the suspects' names when the initial post went up, and the scene was still being processed. We will update this report as Precinct 4 or county officials post additional verified information through their public channels.
