Early this morning, a violent stabbing near the stairs that lead down to Cassidy Street Beach in south Oceanside left four people wounded and sent one of them to the hospital in critical condition. Police say officers quickly tracked down a suspect in a nearby vehicle and arrested him, while three additional victims were taken to area hospitals.
According to Oceanside police, officers were called to the Cassidy Street area just after 2:30 a.m. and arrived to find four confirmed victims suffering from stab wounds. At about 3:11 a.m., officers spotted a man in the 500 block of Fredricks Avenue, arrested him and recovered knives during the contact. Authorities have not released the names or ages of the victims or the suspect, as reported by KGTV/10News.
Where It Happened
Police say the attack occurred near the Cassidy and Pacific stairs, which drop down to Cassidy Street Beach, a narrow public access point at the southern edge of Oceanside's shoreline. City documents describe the Cassidy Street access as having multi-level stairs and a viewing platform used by both residents and visitors, and Oceanside Police Department materials list it as a primary beach entry in that stretch.
