Months after Paddy Barry’s emptied its Hancock Street barroom and the building came down, the pub’s name is back on the streets of Quincy, this time on wheels. Owner Gerry Hanley spent months turning a retired nursing home shuttle into a compact, roving pub that will be staffed by former employees and outfitted with many of the original bar’s fixtures.
The mobile pub rolled out this month and is meant to keep Paddy Barry’s loyal community together while downtown redevelopment rolls on, according to The Patriot Ledger. Hanley and his team expect the bus to show up at private events and neighborhood pop ups across the South Shore.
What The Mobile Pub Looks Like
Photos distributed by the USA TODAY Network show a snug bar top, wooden trim and framed memorabilia salvaged from the old Hancock Street room, along with taps pouring Guinness and other drafts. Reuters/USA TODAY Network also notes that Hanley and a small crew of former staff will operate the bus.
The mobile pivot follows a slow motion goodbye in Quincy Center. Paddy Barry’s closed on April 19, 2025, after 27 years in business, and the building was later demolished to make room for a large apartment project, local reporting shows. The Patriot Ledger documented the farewell and neighbors’ reaction at the time, while Boston 25 News highlighted Hanley’s social media goodbye.
