Raising Cane's is one big step closer to landing in Taylor, after the city's planning commission today approved plans for a new restaurant at the southeast corner of Telegraph and Eureka. The chicken-finger chain is eyeing the busy, signalized intersection for a location designed primarily for carryout service with a drive-thru.
According to MLive, commissioners signed off on a site plan for an approximately 3,301-square-foot Raising Cane's at 15009 Telegraph Road. Planning Director Lora Fell told the outlet by email that "they will next go through engineering and building," which comes before formal permitting and construction. The approval did not lock in a construction or opening timeline.
Site and Building Details
The parcel at 15009 Telegraph Road, a former Walgreens site, sits on a signalized hard corner that developers tend to favor for quick-service restaurants. Property listings and marketing materials show the lot and building have been pitched to investors in recent years, a sign the site has been primed for redevelopment, according to LoopNet.
Where This Fits in Cane's Michigan Push
Raising Cane's opened its first Michigan restaurant in East Lansing in 2022, then made its metro Detroit debut in Canton earlier this year as part of a broader statewide growth plan that includes more suburban locations, Eater Detroit reported. Franchise operators have been zeroing in on high-visibility corners like Telegraph and Eureka as the brand works to build market share around the region.
The Canton opening drew long lines and promotional buzz, with some customers camping out ahead of the ribbon-cutting, highlighting the chain's pull with local diners, according to WXYZ. That kind of turnout helps explain why franchise groups keep hunting for additional Wayne County addresses.
City officials say engineering and building plans are the next step before permits and groundbreaking, and the city's director lists Lora Fell as Taylor's planning director, per the City of Taylor. No construction schedule has been released, and the company has not publicly announced an opening date for the Taylor site, according to the City of Taylor.
