A stolen gray Honda Civic turned a quiet Revere block into a high-stress obstacle course Monday when it jumped a curb and barreled onto the sidewalk while trying to outrun police, a dramatic dash-cam video shows. The car squeezed between a house and a tree before darting back onto the road and speeding off, leaving nearby residents stunned. Authorities later located the vehicle and made an arrest, though officials have not released the driver’s name.

Revere police had been on the lookout for the gray Honda after Boston police reported it stolen from Morton Street last week. Roughly 40 minutes after the alert went out, an officer parked on Broadway spotted the Civic and moved in. Dash-cam footage captures the cruiser pulling in front of the stolen car and flipping on its lights, at which point the Honda shot onto the sidewalk, slid between a home and a tree, then popped back into traffic and took off. Police later said they recovered the vehicle and made an arrest but did not disclose where it was found or identify the driver, according to WHDH.

National trends show fewer vehicle thefts

Scenes like the one in Revere can feel larger than life on a neighborhood street, but they are happening against a national backdrop of fewer auto thefts. Vehicle thefts dropped about 23% in 2025, hitting a multi-decade low after coordinated prevention efforts by law enforcement, insurers and automakers. According to Triple-I, the National Insurance Crime Bureau reported the decline and credited those combined efforts.

Neighbors recall the moment

Business owner Orlin Martinez, who runs Doctor Barber Studio near the stretch where the Civic tore past, told WHDH, “It was crazy, the police was trying to catch him.” Residents said the close call was a jarring reminder of how quickly an ordinary street can feel dangerous when a stolen vehicle suddenly appears. Police have not said whether anyone was injured, and prosecutors will ultimately decide what charges the driver will face.
