A Robeson County father and a 67-year-old guardian are accused of letting a 34-year-old man carry on a months-long sexual relationship with a 15-year-old girl inside the family home, according to investigators. All three adults were arrested this week near Lumberton following a Robeson County Sheriff’s Office investigation into the alleged abuse.
According to The Charlotte Observer, the man accused of statutory rape is Jonathan M. Hunt, 34, of Rowland. He was arrested Tuesday and charged with statutory rape of a person 15 years of age or younger. The girl’s 46-year-old father and her 67-year-old guardian were arrested Wednesday at the family’s home and are being held on a $250,000 secured bond, officials told the paper. Court documents reviewed by the outlet state the father and guardian “allowed” Hunt to have sex with the teen in the home from June 1, 2025, to April 14, 2026.
Legal context
North Carolina law treats sexual intercourse with someone 15 or younger as a serious felony offense, with tougher penalties when the defendant is at least six years older than the victim. Under G.S. 14‑27.25, that age gap can elevate the crime to a Class B1 felony, which is why prosecutors frequently seek enhanced charges in cases with large age differences.
Investigation and charges
The Robeson County Sheriff’s Office said its probe resulted in three arrests and that the girl’s father and guardian are facing charges that include felony child abuse-sexual act, misdemeanor failure to prevent juvenile abuse and contributing to the delinquency of a minor, according to The Charlotte Observer. Hunt is charged with statutory rape of a person 15 years old or younger, authorities said. Officials have not released additional information about the circumstances of the case or upcoming court dates.
All three suspects remain in custody. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Robeson County Sheriff's Office at 910-671-3100. The investigation is ongoing, and prosecutors will determine formal charges as the case moves through the court system.
