Less than a year after opening, Williamsburg's Rose Marie is closing, with the team setting its final day of service for Saturday, June 13. The Southern-leaning bar and restaurant at 524 Lorimer Street said the past year "has been a rollercoaster of high highs and low lows," and the owners have already hinted that something new will soon take over the corner. The news has regulars and curious neighbors dropping by for one more patty melt or frozen martini before the doors close.
According to Greenpointers, the team broke the news in an Instagram note, writing that they were "proud of what this one became and the memories made here." The owners also asked followers to "stay tuned" as they get ready to announce a new project for the space.
From Yellow Rose to a quick rise
Brooklyn Magazine reported that Rose Marie, described by the team as a "little sister" to Manhattan's Yellow Rose, opened last June and quickly drew attention, including a nod from the Michelin Guide. The outlet noted that the quick ascent, followed by an abrupt exit, underscores how critical acclaim does not always shield neighborhood restaurants from day to day operating pressures.
Not a landlord fight this time
The corner spot previously housed Magdelene, which closed after a legal battle with its landlord. Rose Marie's owners told Greenpointers that this closure is not the result of another landlord dispute. That report also shared Rose Marie's pared down closing schedule as the team winds down service ahead of June 13.
