
Gunfire cut through the late afternoon bustle in Tenleytown on Thursday, when a man was shot near the Tenleytown-AU Metro Station and the busy shopping strip along Wisconsin Avenue. Officers found the victim, described by police as an older teen or young adult, in the 4500 block of Wisconsin Avenue around 4:35 p.m. He was taken to a nearby hospital conscious and breathing, and a nearby CVS parking lot was closed off while officers began processing the scene.
The Metropolitan Police Department told WJLA that the shooting was reported at about 4:35 p.m. and that the parking lot near the CVS pharmacy remained blocked off as officers worked the scene. Officials said no suspect has been arrested and the investigation is ongoing. Authorities have asked anyone with information to contact the department.

The shooting unfolded along the commercial stretch of Wisconsin Avenue near Tenleytown Circle, a busy corridor of shops, restaurants and transit stops. The Tenleytown-AU Metro Station, a Red Line stop that serves American University and the surrounding neighborhood, sits at 4501 Wisconsin Ave NW. According to WMATA, the station has entrances on both sides of Wisconsin Avenue and includes escalators and limited metered parking.

The Metropolitan Police Department told WJLA that anyone with information is urged to call the department at 202-727-9099. Investigators have not released additional details about a possible motive or whether other people were involved, and officers remained in the area as they continued their work.
