San Jose started the day under clear skies and a cool chill, with Mineta San José International reporting a low of roughly 52°F. Temperatures are on track to climb to a sunny high near 75°F this afternoon. Northwest winds will become increasingly breezy through the day, with gusts reaching the 20s and stronger bursts expected overnight across ridgelines and passes. Anyone with outdoor plans, especially along the coast or in higher terrain, should be ready for sudden gusts and a choppy ocean tomorrow.
Afternoon Winds Pick Up
Expect northwest winds of about 2 to 16 mph today, with gusts rising into the upper 20s to around 30 mph this afternoon, then trending stronger after sunset. The National Weather Service San Francisco says a focused Wind Advisory will cover parts of the Bay’s mountains and nearby coastal zones from 11 PM today through 11 AM tomorrow, with 45–55 mph gusts possible in gaps and passes and locally higher gusts at favored peaks.
Coastal And Boating Hazards
West-facing beaches will see rough surf, hazardous shore breaks and strong onshore gusts tomorrow morning, and offshore waters may take on gale- or storm-force gusts with seas building to about 19 feet at the peak. Our earlier post has more background on the alerts and local safety advice.
Fire Weather And Safety
Humidity across interior valleys is expected to fall into the teens during the day, and the combination of very dry air and gusty offshore winds keeps fire weather concerns elevated tomorrow. It is wise to avoid spark-producing outdoor work, secure loose items, and give crews and firefighters space if you see smoke, since fires can spread rapidly in 45–55 mph gusts.
What To Expect Next Week
High pressure rebuilds after tomorrow, delivering a quick warm-up inland, with highs reaching the 80s tomorrow and climbing to the upper 80s to near 90°F by midweek, while the coast moderates as the marine layer returns. Keep an eye on updated forecasts before travel or ocean plans, and try to steer clear of exposed bridges, beaches and open water while advisories remain in effect.
