Las Vegas police have arrested a second 18-year-old in connection with a March 30 shooting that left a man dead and his wife wounded at a northwest Las Vegas apartment complex. Court filings identify the suspect as 18-year-old Daequan McGee, who has been named as a co-defendant and is scheduled to appear in court Thursday, May 21. Investigators say the gunfire erupted at about 9:45 p.m. in the 5800 block of Sky Pointe Drive during what they describe as a planned marijuana transaction.
What investigators say
According to police, the victim and his wife drove to the complex to meet two men and complete a drug deal. Detectives say the suspects pulled out guns and opened fire, killing the man and injuring his wife. A LVMPD release states that officers arrived to find both the man and woman suffering from gunshot wounds; the man was later pronounced dead, while the woman was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Metro's Homicide Section is leading the investigation and has asked anyone with information to contact detectives.
Charges and prior records
Court paperwork and police reports list a long slate of felony counts against the teens, including open murder, robbery, conspiracy to commit robbery, multiple first-degree kidnapping charges and counts for discharging a firearm into an occupied vehicle, according to KTNV. The station reported that Spivey was booked on several counts after surrendering to police and that McGee has previous juvenile convictions; KTNV noted McGee was on juvenile parole since September 2025 for an earlier robbery. Both defendants remain under criminal investigation and are presumed innocent until convicted in court.
How the exchange unfolded
Investigators say the meeting for the marijuana sale was arranged online, and police recovered messages that included the apartment complex address and a gate code before the two sides met. Witness accounts and surveillance footage described one suspect getting into the victim's car while another approached with a gun as the driver tried to flee, with the vehicle struck multiple times by gunfire. The man who died was later identified in reporting as 30‑year‑old tattoo artist Deven Mays, and local outlets also note that McGee is listed in court records as a co-defendant and was scheduled to appear May 21, according to 8 News Now (KLAS).
Arrests and custody
Spivey agreed to turn himself in on April 3 and was booked into the Clark County Detention Center, according to law enforcement records. FOX5 Las Vegas reported on the initial arrest and noted that investigators continued to seek leads as they worked warrants tied to the case. Jail and court dockets list multiple felony counts for the suspects, and authorities have not released information about any plea or sentencing timetable.
