Glitter is officially back on the Financial District calendar. Drag Me Downtown is returning this June with four free Friday night pop-up drag shows across downtown San Francisco. The series kicks off next Friday, June 5, and runs every Friday through June 26, with doors opening at 4:30 PM and performances scheduled from 5 to 7 PM.

Where and when

Each event is free with an RSVP, and pre-registration comes with exclusive Drag Me Downtown swag. Organizers are also inviting an optional $10 donation to support The Transgender District.

The series will rotate through four downtown spots every Friday in June: 101 California Plaza on June 5, the Ferry Building back plaza on June 12, The Conservatory at One Sansome on June 19, and the Merchants Exchange on June 26. Doors open at 4:30 PM, with shows running from 5 to 7 PM, according to the Downtown SF Partnership.

Who's on the bill

Across the four shows, Drag Me Downtown plans to spotlight 13 local performers. Host Bobby Friday will helm the series, joined by Curveball, Hennessy Williams and other Bay Area favorites. The June 26 finale at the Merchants Exchange is set to feature special guest Jax from RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 15. The performer lineup and count were reported by Secret San Francisco.

What organizers say

Organizers are pitching Drag Me Downtown as both a Pride-season celebration and a way to bring some actual nightlife back to the office-heavy Financial District.

"I’m excited to see Drag Me Downtown return for a third year—bringing people together, boosting foot traffic to small businesses, and celebrating the LGBTQ+ community that helps make San Francisco special," said Robbie Silver, according to a Downtown SF Partnership press release.

Host Bobby Friday said the series gives local performers a high-profile stage to express themselves, live authentically, and spread more joy and love, per the same Downtown SF Partnership release.

How to go and support

Organizers say attendance jumped last year, and that the shows help channel Pride energy directly into downtown businesses while raising money for trans-led community work, a trend noted by Secret San Francisco.

The events are free with RSVP, and donations, along with pre-registration proceeds, have been directed to The Transgender District to support community programs. Those funds help sustain local services and programming for transgender and gender-nonconforming people, according to The Transgender District.

Why it matters for downtown

Beyond the rhinestones and death drops, Drag Me Downtown is being used as a practical tool to reactivate downtown evenings and support nearby restaurants and bars. Previous runs of the pop-up series have drawn sizable crowds and helped boost foot traffic and nights out, local coverage has found.

CBS San Francisco has reported that similar events have helped bring customers back to downtown businesses, a trend Drag Me Downtown is aiming to keep going this June.
