Dutchtown just landed a major new neighbor on South Grand, as a 27,000-square-foot Family Care Health Centers clinic opened this week with a full slate of services under one roof. The new building at South Grand and Chippewa debuted with a ribbon-cutting on Thursday, followed by tours and a community luncheon that drew local leaders and residents.
The clinic brings pediatrics, geriatrics, women’s health, behavioral health, WIC nutrition services and an on-site pharmacy into a single site. Officials say care will be offered on a sliding-fee scale regardless of a patient’s ability to pay, and the corner location is close to several bus lines so residents who rely on public transit can get to appointments more easily.
What the Dutchtown Clinic Offers
In a press release, Family Care Health Centers described the new address at 3824 South Grand Boulevard as a one-stop setting for primary and behavioral health care, nutrition and WIC services, and pharmacy support. The organization said it is already scheduling patients and, according to the announcement, will formally begin seeing them next Tuesday, May 26.
Services, Sliding Scale and Access
According to Spectrum News, the Dutchtown clinic’s offerings include pediatrics, geriatrics, women’s health, expanded behavioral health, nutrition services such as WIC, and pharmaceutical care. Staff will also help patients manage chronic conditions like diabetes, asthma and high blood pressure. Leaders told the outlet that services will be provided using a sliding pay scale so that cost does not keep people from seeking treatment.
CEO Aramide Ayorinde told Spectrum, "We want to see folks who truly need us and even just for folks who are well because part of our work is preventative care."
Why Dutchtown
Planners said Dutchtown was selected to meet neighborhood health needs and to tap into strong transit connections, since the site sits at a crossroads for several bus routes, including the high-ridership 70 line. The project has been described as roughly a $15 million investment in local health care, according to St. Louis Public Radio.
Architects at Trivers collaborated with Family Care Health Centers to design the building so that medical, behavioral and pharmacy services flow together, with an eye toward easier same-day handoffs and coordination in a single visit. Residents who spoke with reporters said the central location and bus access make the clinic especially valuable for neighbors who do not have reliable transportation.
Hiring and How to Get Care
Family Care Health Centers is staffing up at the new site, hiring for doctors, nurses, medical assistants, clinicians, front-desk staff and security. Open positions and job-fair details are listed on the organization’s careers page, and officials say they intend to recruit from the surrounding community.
Residents can call the main Family Care Health Centers line or book online to make appointments as the Dutchtown location ramps up operations. The organization will continue running its other public sites, including Carondelet and Forest Park Southeast, while the new South Grand clinic comes fully online.
