A woman is facing a raft of potential charges after an early-morning police chase ripped through South L.A., with officers saying she blew through stop signs, barreled into oncoming lanes and even drove on the wrong side of the street before LAPD units boxed her in near Figueroa Street and Gage Avenue.
The LAPD's Southeast Division said the pursuit kicked off when a suspected driver refused to pull over for a felony traffic stop, with television helicopters quickly picking up the action from overhead. According to KTLA, officers rolled out a spike strip as at least six patrol cars trailed a reportedly stolen black Jeep Wrangler. During the chase, the Jeep shed a fender and the driver twice pulled into gas stations, pausing briefly before hitting the gas again. Police said the vehicle finally came to a stop a third time near Figueroa and Gage, where officers surrounded it with guns drawn and took the woman into custody after she initially refused to get out.
