A hillside crash in Sunland on Monday evening turned deadly when an SUV rolled into Oro Vista Park, killing one man and sending three other people to the hospital, emergency officials said. The single-vehicle rollover drew a heavy emergency response to the area, which sits on a slope above the park. Authorities have not released the victims' names, and a probable cause for the wreck has not been announced.

Heavy Response at Oro Vista Park

Firefighters who arrived first at the scene found the SUV had gone off an embankment and come to rest inside Oro Vista Park, according to KTLA. Paramedics pronounced one male victim dead at the scene.

Sky5 aerial footage shared by KTLA showed at least three ambulances and two fire engines staged near the crumpled SUV as crews worked around the wreckage.

Victims and Investigation Underway

Three other occupants, a teenage male, a teenage female and a man in his 20s, were transported to hospitals in serious condition, and “paramedics determined the male victim was beyond medical intervention,” KTLA reported. The Los Angeles Police Department’s Foothill Division is leading the investigation and has not released the identity of the driver.

What Investigators Will Examine Next

The cause of the rollover remains unclear. As they process the scene, investigators typically look at possible contributing factors such as speed, road conditions and potential mechanical failure. Detectives are expected to review any available video and seek out witness accounts as the probe moves forward.
