Heavy San Diego police and SWAT presence shut down the intersection of South 37th Street and Ocean View Boulevard in the city’s Mountain View neighborhood on Tuesday, as dozens of squad cars flooded the area and traffic in both directions ground to a halt. Neighbors clustered outside to watch officers establish a perimeter while a news helicopter circled overhead.
According to FOX5 San Diego, the San Diego Police Department sent SWAT and multiple patrol units to the 3700 block of Ocean View Boulevard just after noon and blocked the road to drivers while handling an active police matter. Station footage showed officers gathered near storefronts, and FOX5 reported that police had not released any details about what prompted the response at the time of its report.
Area Has Seen Serious Incidents Before
The same intersection has a history of violent incidents that have triggered large police responses, including earlier shootings near 37th and Ocean View that brought detectives to the scene. KGTV’s local coverage of prior shootings in the Mountain View area helps explain why an operation on that corner gets immediate attention from neighbors and media. KGTV has reported on several of those previous cases.
What We Know and What We Do Not
As of the initial reports, the San Diego Police Department had not issued a public statement with specifics about the incident, and FOX5 noted that officers on scene were not commenting. Drivers moving through southeastern San Diego should plan for delays while the area remains secured, and residents are advised to monitor official SDPD channels for updates as investigators continue their work. This story will be updated when the department releases more information.
