After a 20-year run on South Dixie Highway, Misha's Cupcakes is closing its Coral Gables walk-in shop at the end of May. Owner and founder Misha Kuryla shared the news on social media, calling the move "bittersweet" as the company shifts its focus to wholesale, special orders and delivery. The change will end Misha's walk-in presence in Miami-Dade, even as the brand keeps its baking and distribution operations rolling behind the scenes.
According to the Miami Herald, the bakery's Instagram post described the decision as "incredibly difficult" and thanked customers for supporting the shop over two decades. The Herald reports that foot traffic at the Dixie Highway storefront had dropped enough that maintaining a walk-in location there no longer made financial sense, prompting the pivot. The bakery's message also stressed that Coral Gables will "always be part of Misha's story."
Where The Baking Will Be Done
The company says it will relocate its baking facility to its Pembroke Pines location while keeping that site open as a retail shop with desserts baked daily, according to its locations page. The Coral Gables storefront at 1586 S Dixie Highway will continue serving walk-in customers through the end of the month. Centralizing production is intended to support the expansion of Misha's wholesale and special-order operations.
From Kitchen Startup To Regional Brand
Misha Kuryla started baking at home in 2005, then moved into a kiosk at Dadeland Mall in 2007 before opening the Dixie Highway brick-and-mortar shop in 2008, the Miami Herald reports. Over time, Misha's grew into a regional name with grocery partnerships, vending machines at Miami International Airport and wholesale accounts across South Florida. Kuryla told followers the business will now zero in on special-order cakes, corporate gifting and a new lower-cost delivery option.
How Customers Can Still Get Cupcakes
Once the Coral Gables shop closes, fans will still be able to find Misha's through its grocery partners, airport vending machines and online. The bakery ships nationwide via Goldbelly and lists Whole Foods, Milam's and other retailers as partners on its site. The company says it will lean harder into wholesale, catering and delivery, while maintaining some storefront and pickup choices. For last-minute orders and updated hours, customers are encouraged to check the locations page and the bakery's social channels.
"That store was more than just a bakery to us, it was built with love," the shop wrote in its social post, thanking customers and staff for years of support. Misha's added that Coral Gables will always remain part of its story even as production heads to Pembroke Pines. The brand's Instagram will carry the latest updates. Anyone craving one last box from the original spot has until the end of May to swing by the Dixie Highway location.
