Emergency crews had to call in a medical helicopter for a 3-year-old child Saturday after what Washington County dispatchers described as a drowning at the Hyatt Place hotel next to the Meadows racetrack. Officials have not released the child's condition, and details on exactly what happened remain scarce. The incident was reported in the evening and quickly flagged through 911.

Hotel Tied To Popular Casino And Racetrack
The Hyatt Place in Washington is connected to Hollywood Casino at The Meadows and features an indoor heated pool and on-site dining, according to Destination Greater Pittsburgh. The hotel sits on Racetrack Road near the casino and outlet complex and is a frequent lodging choice for visitors to the Meadows.
Pool Safety And What Experts Emphasize
Drowning is a leading cause of death for children ages 1 to 4 in the United States, the CDC reports, and many drownings in that age group happen in pools. The agency urges multiple layers of protection, including close supervision, physical barriers, life jackets and formal swim lessons to help reduce risk.
Updated guidance from the American Heart Association and pediatric experts also stresses that CPR with rescue breaths is critical when cardiac arrest follows submersion.
So far, officials have released little beyond the initial dispatch information, and WTAE Pittsburgh notes that Washington County 911 is the source of the early details. We will watch for updates from county authorities and the hotel and will add new information as it becomes available.
