A late-night stunt session in Tolleson ended in tragedy early Sunday when a 19-year-old motorcyclist struck a curb and was killed near a busy West Valley intersection. Tolleson officers were called to 83rd Avenue and Buckeye Road just before 1 a.m., where the rider was pronounced dead at the scene and a full collision investigation was launched.
Investigators told ABC15 the motorcyclist had been riding in an empty parking lot with other vehicles, where the group was reportedly speeding and performing stunts before the crash. At some point, the rider hit a curb and suffered fatal injuries. Tolleson police say the area has since been cleared, although detectives are still piecing together exactly what led up to the impact.
Buckeye Road Is A High-Priority Corridor
City leaders have already flagged this stretch of roadway as one of the most dangerous in town. The Tolleson Road Safety Action Plan lists Buckeye Road and intersections such as 83rd Avenue among the community's high-priority locations for fatal and serious crashes. Adopted in June 2025, the plan calls for a mix of engineering changes, speed control strategies and stepped-up enforcement in an effort to cut down on deadly collisions.
Police Say Investigation Is Ongoing
According to ABC15, Tolleson police detectives are continuing to investigate the crash and have not released additional information about the rider or any potential citations. Officers closed the scene earlier Sunday while they collected evidence and spoke with witnesses, then reopened the area once initial work was complete.
Why The City Is Pushing Road Changes
The fatal crash underscores why Tolleson officials are trying to reshape how people drive on Buckeye Road. As laid out in the Tolleson Road Safety Action Plan, a slate of short- and long-term projects, from upgraded traffic control to better lighting and new medians, is aimed at lowering speeds and reducing collisions along the corridor. Those changes are intended to curb risky behavior such as high-speed riding and group stunt driving that police say factored into this weekend's deadly wreck.
Authorities have released few additional details and say the investigation remains active. We will update this report if Tolleson police or other officials provide more information.
