A longtime Vancouver foster parent who cared for roughly 55 children over more than a decade is now at the center of a child-abuse case that has jolted the local system. Authorities say Darold A. Slack was arrested on May 1 and booked into the Clark County Jail on multiple counts that include child molestation and rape, following a child-abuse investigation that led detectives to serve a search warrant at his home.
Investigation and charges
According to investigators, the case began on April 27, when the Children's Justice Center opened a probe into a reported sexual assault. As part of that investigation, detectives executed a search warrant at Slack's Vancouver home on May 1.
That same day, Slack was taken into custody and booked into the Clark County Jail on multiple charges. Clark County Jail Services records show he remains in custody following the May 1 arrest.
Police say Slack, who they report fostered about 55 children in Vancouver between 2013 and 2025, now faces a slate of accusations that includes second-degree child molestation, second-degree rape and third-degree rape, along with other sexual-misconduct counts, as reported by KPTV.
Police seeking additional victims
Vancouver police say they believe there may be additional victims who have not yet come forward and are asking anyone with information about Slack or the case to contact investigators.
The Children's Justice Center lists a main phone line, a general email address and the county's 24-hour child-abuse hotline for Clark County, and it advises calling 911 immediately if a child appears to be in imminent danger. Detectives say the investigation is ongoing and urge anyone with relevant information to reach out through those channels.
Legal notes
The allegations against Slack are criminal charges, not findings of guilt. He has not been convicted and is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
