U.S. Marshals with the Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force arrested 26-year-old Roberto Chillon early Monday in Cleveland, authorities said. Chillon is accused of fatally shooting 22-year-old Jason Bond on Jan. 4, in a case that has been hanging over the city for months. Officials said the operation ended at a home on the city’s west side, where officers moved in and took him into custody.
According to Cleveland 19, Chillon was arrested at a residence in the 12900 block of West Sprague Road. Marshals reported recovering ammunition for handguns and rifles, narcotics, marijuana, a drum magazine, five handguns and more than $24,000 in U.S. currency during the arrest. “This criminal took one life and could have killed more with his complete disregard for life in this shooting,” U.S. Marshal Pete Elliott told the station.
Victim Found Near MetroHealth
Police said the shooting that killed Bond took place near the intersection of Riverside Drive and Pearl Road. According to early coverage from WTAM, Bond managed to get out of his vehicle and walk toward MetroHealth Medical Center after being wounded. EMS met him outside the hospital and took him inside, where he later died from his injuries.
A separate report on the fatal shooting near Riverside Drive also identified Bond and detailed the location of the attack.
What Authorities Recovered And Next Steps
Officials said the items seized during Chillon’s arrest are now part of an ongoing investigation, and prosecutors will make the final charging decisions. The U.S. Marshals indicated the federal system may pursue additional weapons-related charges based on the recovered firearms and high-capacity drum magazine. Cleveland 19 reported that marshals specifically raised the possibility of federal gun counts following the seizure.
Cleveland police continue to investigate the January homicide and have asked anyone with information to contact detectives. As of the time of reporting, formal charging documents had not yet been posted publicly.
