A high-speed police chase tore through a northwest Miami-Dade neighborhood Wednesday night and ended in dramatic fashion when a red Dodge pickup overturned after a Florida Highway Patrol trooper used a PIT maneuver. Deputies and troopers took a suspect into custody and pulled a person from inside the truck. Witnesses said two people were hurt and at least one was rushed to Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital.
Troopers Say PIT Maneuver Flipped the Truck
Florida Highway Patrol troopers had been on the lookout for a red Dodge pickup tied to a reported kidnapping when the driver refused to stop and took off, triggering a brief but intense pursuit. As reported by CBS Miami, an FHP trooper pulled a PIT maneuver near Northwest 18th Avenue and 86th Street, spinning the truck and leaving it on its side. According to CBS, deputies and troopers quickly arrested the driver and recovered the victim, and investigators have held back further details as they continue their work.
Neighbors Describe Chaos on Their Block
Neighbors told Local 10 the chase sounded and looked like something out of an action movie, only louder and a lot closer to home. Residents reported hearing screeching tires and watching a stream of patrol cars, backed by a circling helicopter, pour into the area. “You could hear the car screeching,” one witness told the station, while another described officers moving “up and down” nearby streets as they closed in. Local 10 reported investigators stayed at the scene for several hours before a tow truck finally rolled the overturned pickup back onto its wheels and hauled it away.
Investigators Keep Details Close
Authorities have not released the name of the suspect or the recovered victim and have shared little additional information so far, according to CBS Miami. The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office and the Florida Highway Patrol are continuing the investigation, and officials have not yet announced any charges or given a timeline for when more details might be made public.
