Kailua's Aikahi Park Shopping Center could be in line for a new national name on the tenant board, as Wingstop has filed a permit for a space in the Windward Oʻahu center. The paperwork is an early step that points to a possible new outpost and would add another quick service option to the neighborhood hub if the project ultimately moves forward.
Permit Filing Points To Aikahi Park
According to Pacific Business News, the company submitted paperwork with local permitting authorities for a tenant space at Aikahi Park, and commercial real estate reporter Alexander Lugo notes the site has drawn interest from national chains in past years. The report also says earlier plans for a different national tenant at the center stalled years ago and did not move forward.
What Space Is Slated
Leasing materials published by Alexander & Baldwin show a roughly 1,496 square foot unit at Aikahi Park identified for "Fresh Up Hawaii (Wingstop)," suggesting a franchisee or tenant has been lined up for that footprint. Aikahi Park is anchored by Safeway and hosts tenants such as Starbucks and Boston’s Pizza, positioning it as a convenient pickup spot for nearby neighborhoods and service members stationed at Marine Corps Base Hawaii.
Why Wingstop Is Moving In
Wingstop has been on an aggressive growth push this year, opening dozens of net new restaurants and reiterating strong unit growth targets, per the chain’s April earnings release. Locally, the brand has been expanding around Oʻahu already, including a recent new shop in Pearl City, as reported in Pearl City gets sauced.
What Comes Next
A permit filing is only the first step, and the project will still need any necessary building permits, contractor bids and inspections before a public opening can be scheduled. We will monitor Honolulu permit records and A&B leasing updates for an official timeline and confirmation of a potential Wingstop opening on the Windward side.
