Authorities say a Sunday morning on the Little Miami River turned grim when crews pulled the body of a 73-year-old man from the water near Grandin Road in Hamilton Township. Investigators are withholding the man's name until his family can be notified. Police say the case remains under investigation, and at this point, they do not suspect foul play.
According to a release from the Hamilton Township Police Department, officers were called at about 9:15 a.m. after a caller reported seeing a body in the river near Grandin Road. Emergency crews recovered the man at the scene, and officials are working to notify family members, according to WKRC. Investigators say they are still gathering information and have not released details on how the man may have ended up in the water.
The department said that "The incident remains under investigation" and that "At this time, no foul play is suspected," as reported by WKRC. Anyone with information has been asked to contact the Hamilton Township Police Department, which provides public contact numbers and records procedures on its website.
River history and hazards
The Little Miami is both an Ohio state and a federally designated scenic river that attracts paddlers, anglers, and trail users, according to the Little Miami Conservancy. Even so, parts of the river can become deceptively swift and dangerous, especially after heavy rains. Past searches on the Little Miami have ended in tragedy, including the 2018 recovery of a 17-year-old swimmer, per FOX19, highlighting how quickly conditions on the water can turn hazardous.
Investigation continues
Police say the probe remains active and that anyone with information should contact the Hamilton Township Police Department. The Warren County Coroner's Office handles death determinations and autopsies in the county and can be reached for records or procedural questions, per the county coroner's information page. Authorities say they expect to release more details after the next of kin have been notified and initial investigative steps are complete.
