
Gunfire on Chicago’s Near South Side left a 23-year-old man dead Sunday afternoon, authorities said. The shooting happened around 4:39 p.m. in the 2600 block of South Dearborn, where the victim was hit in the chest and back. He was taken in critical condition to the University of Chicago Medical Center and later pronounced dead. Officers remained at the scene as investigators canvassed the area for evidence and witnesses.

Area Three detectives say they are working to determine what led to the shooting and who is responsible. The victim was transported to the main Hyde Park campus of UChicago Medicine, listed at 5841 S. Maryland Ave, where he was pronounced dead, according to hospital facility information and the initial police report.
