What Troopers Say Happened
According to a Florida Highway Patrol report cited by the Gainesville Sun, the driver was traveling south on CR 241 near NW 83rd Lane when her vehicle struck the pedestrian, who was walking in the southbound lane. The crash occurred at about 3:05 p.m. Friday. The driver, identified only as a 22-year-old Jacksonville woman, suffered minor injuries. Troopers told the paper the investigation is ongoing.
Crash Corridor Has Been On Safety Radar
County Road 241 has already been flagged for safety upgrades. In 2024, Alachua County announced a widening and resurfacing project on CR 241 that includes adding paved shoulders meant to improve conditions for people walking and biking. Alachua County said the work will widen travel lanes and add four-foot paved shoulders along portions of the route. Local planners have long pointed to stretches of CR 241, where limited shoulders combine with rural speeds, as trouble spots for non-motorized users.
Investigation Continues
The Florida Highway Patrol is leading the investigation and has said more details will be released when available, according to the Gainesville Sun. So far, troopers have not released the pedestrian's name or identified any contributing factors such as impairment or excessive speed. Anyone with information about the crash is asked to contact the Florida Highway Patrol.
