An Ansonia driver died yesterday after his car slammed into the back of a tractor-trailer inside a construction zone on northbound I-75 in Miami County, shutting down traffic and drawing a large emergency response near milepost 75.
The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. He was later identified as Yukahn Riffell of Ansonia, according to the Dayton Daily News. That report states Riffell was driving a 2005 Chevrolet Impala that struck the rear of a 2010 Freightliner, which had pulled onto the right shoulder inside the work zone. Officials had not reported any other injuries.
What Troopers Say Happened
According to a release from the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the Impala entered closed lanes within the work zone before crashing into the tractor-trailer from behind. The patrol noted that the crash remains under investigation and, so far, has not listed any additional injuries. Troopers have not released information about what might have contributed to the collision.
