An early morning brawl at the Regency Inn on Arlington Expressway took a strange turn Tuesday when a single bullet hit two men, according to Jacksonville authorities. Officers were called to the motel around 5:40 a.m., and paramedics rushed both men to a nearby hospital with injuries that police described as non-life-threatening.
According to News4JAX, investigators say the two men got into a fight and one of them pulled out a handgun. A woman who was also armed then stepped into the fray, and the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office reported that "a firearm was discharged, striking both men." Officials have not yet said whether the man or the woman fired the shot.
Investigators Canvassing for Video and Witnesses
Detectives with the Robbery and Violent Crime Unit spent the morning talking to witnesses and combing through the Regency Inn property in search of surveillance video and other leads. Regency Inn Has Seen Police Calls Before
The Regency Inn and nearby motels have been on law enforcement's radar before, with previous shootings and investigations drawing officers to the same stretch of Arlington Expressway. In 2019, Action News Jax reported on a double shooting at the property that led police to block off parts of the motel as they worked the scene and interviewed witnesses.
In this latest case, officials said everyone involved in the confrontation has been detained while detectives work to piece together exactly how one round managed to hit both men. This story will be updated as the sheriff's office releases more details.
