Commerce is about to get a spot where you can grab a schmear and settle in for a serious game night. Bagels & Board Games, a board-game café pairing New York-style bagels with a tabletop game library, is aiming for a fall debut at 1728 N. Broad St. Owner John Kalina and his team are targeting a September launch and expect to operate most days from morning into the evening, combining coffee service with space to play. The shop will sell bagels, bagel sandwiches, cream cheeses and coffee while offering an on-site library of board and trading-card games.
As reported by What Now Atlanta, the café plans to charge a table fee that will give customers open access to its game library. That outlet also notes that the lineup will include a range of board games along with trading-card nights for Magic: The Gathering and Pokémon, and that the team is already thinking ahead to possible private rooms and escape-room offerings in the future.
What They Will Serve And How It Will Work
Co-owner Alexandra Adams told Business Debut that the team recently signed a lease and is fitting out roughly 1,500 square feet for a kitchen and seating area, with a planned game library of more than 200 titles. Adams described a menu that will center on about eight bagel varieties and eight cream cheeses, plus breakfast bagel sandwiches, "pizza bagels" and coffee. She said some bagels may be brought in from New York. According to Adams, the owners plan event nights focused on trading-card games and are weighing an 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. schedule on most days.
How The Model Fits A Growing Niche
Board-game cafés that mix food, coffee and a communal game library have been popping up in cities across the country, often charging modest per-person play fees and hosting organized game nights, according to national coverage from outlets such as Eater. Hoodline's earlier write-up on Chicago's Bonus Round Game Cafe highlighted how similar spots can draw steady local crowds.
When To Expect It And What To Watch For
"The long-term vision is definitely opening a second or third store someday, maybe in other states," Kalina told What Now Atlanta. The owners say they have already signed the lease and are posting build-out updates on the brand's website and Instagram, according to Business Debut. Fans should watch for an official soft-opening or grand-opening date, which the team expects to land in mid- to late-September.
