A quiet midweek morning at a Bay Shore marina turned into something out of a boating blooper reel on Wednesday, when a pickup truck ended up perched on top of a small pleasure boat. The 23-foot vessel, which was unoccupied, was left grounded along the dock, and the driver managed to walk away without serious injury.
The incident unfolded at the Bay Shore marina at 122 Ocean Avenue, where police say a 67-year-old man behind the wheel of a Toyota pickup drove onto a 23-foot Monterey bow rider, according to PIX11. Suffolk County police later released photos from the scene, showing the truck resting awkwardly on the bow of the boat.
What Police Said
"The driver exited without assistance," Suffolk County police said, as reported by PIX11. Officers noted that the boat was empty at the time and that the truck’s driver was not hurt. Authorities have not yet said whether any citations or charges might result from the mishap.
Not the First Time at This Marina
While scenes like this are rare along Bay Shore’s waterfront, they are not entirely without precedent. In 2019, a separate crash at the same marina left a boat grounded after a dockside impact, a reminder of how fast things can go wrong around the slips, as reported by CBS New York.
Next Steps
Suffolk County police say the case remains under investigation. Officials expect the town and the marina operator to coordinate any necessary salvage work and repairs. Investigators are asking anyone who may have information about what happened to contact the police.
