German Village’s longtime taproom, The Daily Growler, is getting a second act. After a brief spring shutdown and a top-to-bottom refresh, the bar at 702 S. High St. will reopen Friday, June 19, as The Daily Etcetera, with a new name, updated look, and a beefed-up menu of drinks.
New name, reopening date
According to Columbus Business First, the German Village spot is being reborn as a renamed, remodeled, and revived concept run by the same ownership behind The Daily Growler. The relaunch shifts the emphasis beyond growler fills to a fuller, more flexible bar program, with an updated tap list and interior tweaks set to debut when the doors swing back open.
Renovations and the 'Chrysalis' pause
The High Street location went dark in mid-March for what the owners dubbed a “Chrysalis” phase, a planned remodel rather than a farewell tour. WhatNow reported that the German Village bar paused operations on March 16, while the Upper Arlington shop stayed open. The downtime gave the team space to spruce up the patio, refresh the interior, and broaden the drink lineup heading into the summer season.
Owners and the brand's local roots
The Daily Growler started in Upper Arlington in 2012 and later expanded into Powell and the Brewery District. Owner John Blakely and his family continue to run the operation, Columbus Underground reported. They have experimented with sister concepts around Columbus, including The Daily Bar in Italian Village, which helps explain the decision to rebrand the German Village address instead of shutting it down. The move keeps the bar’s footprint in a neighborhood known for summer events and busy patios.
How to follow the reopening
