Roswell’s Saloon, Montrose’s neon-drenched space bar, is calling it a mission complete. The glow-y, galaxy-themed cocktail spot will pour its last drinks this Sunday, wrapping a three-year run after owner Shawn Bermudez chose not to renew the lease.
The decision brings an abrupt end to one of the neighborhood’s more theatrical late-night haunts. Bermudez described the bar as “a labor of love,” telling CultureMap Houston he’d rather close the doors than extend the lease. According to the outlet, Roswell’s final night of service is this Sunday, with the closure notice published June 23, 2026.
Spacey design and theatrical cocktails
The two-story, blacklight-heavy lounge opened in 2023 and went all-in on retro-futuristic kitsch: projection-mapped walls, UV-reactive floors and drinks served in planet-shaped glassware. Eater Houston highlighted the zodiac-themed cocktail list and over-the-top presentations that matched the electric décor. That sense of play helped turn Roswell’s into a go-to orbit for Montrose night owls looking for something a little weirder than the average bar.
Hours and neighborhood role
Roswell’s typically kept a late-night schedule, opening around 7 p.m. and serving until 2 a.m., positioning it as a frequent stop for post-dinner and after-hours crowds. Those hours appear on Roswell’s website, along with images of the glowing interior that made the place instantly recognizable.
Set along the Westheimer stretch in Montrose, long home to experimental bars and small retail concepts, Roswell’s added a loud, color-soaked chapter to the area’s nightlife story before its impending fade to black.
What’s next for the owner
Bermudez told CultureMap Houston he will now turn his attention to his growing restaurant and retail lineup, which includes multiple locations of the Burger Joint and the Taco Stand. The outlet reports a new Burger Joint on Kirby is expected this fall, with a Pizza Place planned next to Happy Go Lucky in early 2027. Shutting down Roswell’s, Bermudez said, clears the runway for those upcoming projects.
