After nearly two years behind construction fences, St. Pete Beach's longtime Postcard Inn reopened Thursday as The Luce, a rebranded and renovated beachfront hotel that began welcoming guests on June 11. The familiar postcard-era surf motel vibe has been swapped for a midcentury-meets-modern refresh, complete with a larger pool, upgraded rooms and a new on-site restaurant called Sundrop. The relaunch follows major damage from back-to-back 2024 hurricanes that forced the property to close for reconstruction.
New Era For A Classic Beach Hotel
In a press release, The Luce announced it has joined Marriott's Tribute Portfolio and reopened with roughly 200 renovated rooms, bungalow suites and about 14,000 square feet of event space, all designed to lean into the area's retro Florida aesthetic while adding contemporary comforts, according to PR Newswire. The hotel's materials spotlight what it calls St. Pete Beach's largest pool, private beach access with a dedicated beach butler, cabana service, fire pits, lawn games and a second dining concept, Baby Turtle Beach Club, slated to open this fall, per the same release.
Storm Surge, Staff And The Rebuild
General manager Jeremy DaSilva said the hotel was "drastically impacted" by storm surge during the 2024 hurricanes and that many staff members lost homes as the property recovered, remarks relayed to FOX 13 News. DaSilva told the station the renovation focused on preserving the site's 1957 mid-century character while layering in modern amenities, and an official ribbon-cutting is scheduled for June 17.
Local Reaction And Neighborhood Boost
Nearby business owners say the reopening is a welcome sign for the beachfront economy. The site was purchased in 2022 in a deal reported to be about $83 million, and many hotel leaders stayed on through the rebuild, Bay News 9 reports. Alison Herman of Larry's Ice Cream told the outlet she expects the return of hotel guests to give neighboring shops and foot traffic along Gulf Boulevard a noticeable lift.
Booking, Address And What To Expect
The Luce lists its address as 6300 Gulf Blvd. and is accepting reservations and day-pass bookings on its website, which also links to Marriott Bonvoy offers. The hotel's press materials note a soft-opening promotion rewarding Bonvoy members, according to The Luce. Guests checking in now will find revamped rooms with Lavazza machines and premium amenities, a new lobby mural and expanded outdoor spaces that the property says are meant to appeal to both locals and visitors.
