A Monday afternoon ride on METRO’s Red Line in north Houston turned violent when a woman was stabbed on a light rail platform near Cavalcade and Fulton, according to authorities. METRO police detained a suspect at the scene while first responders rushed in to treat the victim and get her to a hospital.
ABC13 reported that SkyEye13 video showed officers locking down the platform as emergency crews worked on the injured rider. The station also noted that the suspect was taken into custody, although investigators had not yet identified a possible motive. The Cavalcade stop sits where Cavalcade Street meets Fulton on METRO’s Red Line, according to METRO. Eyewitness News said it was still gathering details as investigators processed the scene.
Investigation underway as transit safety stays in the spotlight
The stabbing adds to a string of recent incidents putting a spotlight on safety across Houston’s transit system. In April, a fight at a METRO transit center left a woman cut, according to Click2Houston. Then in May, a knife wielding man gunned down at a southeast Houston bus stop in an officer involved shooting added fresh fuel to riders’ concerns.
Transit officials have said they are working with investigators and reviewing surveillance video and witness statements as part of the ongoing probe into the Cavalcade platform attack.
Police are asking anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS (8477) or submit a tip online, according to Crime Stoppers of Houston. This story will be updated as authorities release more details.
