A Bronx street corner just off the Morrison Avenue–Soundview 6 train station turned deadly Thursday when two men were fatally shot, police said. Officers found the victims on the corner of Westchester Avenue and Harrod Avenue and rushed them to Jacobi Medical Center, where both were later pronounced dead. Authorities said the motive remained unclear and no arrests had been reported as of Friday morning.
Police: Victims Found Outside Building
As reported by the New York Post, police identified one victim as 43 years old and the other as 53. Officers discovered the men outside a building at Westchester Avenue and Harrod Avenue, and emergency crews transported both to Jacobi, where hospital staff pronounced them dead, police told the paper. Detectives said the investigation is ongoing.
Investigation and Citywide Context
Detectives from the NYPD's Bronx commands were canvassing the block and collecting evidence, authorities said. The shooting comes amid broader declines in murders and shooting incidents citywide so far this year. Through May, the department reported historic lows in murders, shooting incidents, and shooting victims, along with recent large gun-seizure efforts. NYPD officials said focused enforcement and gun-removal operations remain a priority.
Scene Near the Morrison Avenue–Soundview Stop
Media photos showed crime-scene tape about a block from the Morrison Avenue–Soundview station on the 6 line, underscoring how close the shooting occurred to a transit corridor. That stretch of Soundview has seen incidents of street violence in recent weeks; Hoodline covered a separate May stabbing in the neighborhood. Local outlets have reported on the scene and recent nearby violence.
