Hillsborough County deputies have launched an investigation after a body was discovered Friday evening in a Wimauma neighborhood, turning a stretch of Delia Street into an active death scene.
Deputies were dispatched to the 16000 block of Delia Street after the agency's 911 center received a call at 6:18 p.m. on June 26, 2026 that reported a person down in the area, according to a press release from the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office. When deputies arrived, they found the person already deceased, described in the release as being "beyond help." Detectives have cordoned off the immediate area and are gathering evidence as the investigation continues.
As detailed by the Tampa Free Press, investigators have not yet released the person's identity or a possible cause of death. Reporter Liz Shultz noted that deputies remained on scene while detectives worked the case, a sign that the inquiry is still very much in its early stages.
Recent Cases In Wimauma
It is not the first time this year that Wimauma has been at the center of a difficult investigation. In February, deputies looked into the death of a 4-year-old on Tee Time Road, a case that remains under review. Hoodline reported on that earlier incident in a piece titled "4-year-old found dead," noting that the Medical Examiner would determine the cause of death. The repeat presence of detectives in the South County community has kept attention focused on the area.
What Investigators Say And How To Help
The Sheriff's Office has emphasized that the Delia Street scene remains an active investigation and that any confirmed developments will be shared through its Public Affairs Office. Members of the public who may have seen or heard anything in the area are urged to call HCSO's non-emergency line or contact Crime Stoppers so detectives can follow up on tips. The agency's press release includes contact information for the Public Affairs team for anyone seeking official updates.
