A quiet stretch of Comrie Way turned into an active crime scene Sunday evening after Pittsburgh police found a man dead inside a garage on the 5000 block of the street.
Zone 5 officers were called out around 7 p.m. for a report of a deceased person and discovered the man inside the garage with apparent traumatic injuries, according to CBS Pittsburgh. Detectives with the Bureau's Violent Crime Unit are now treating the case as a suspicious death and have taken over the investigation.
Crime scene investigators spent the evening processing the area as they worked to piece together what happened inside the garage and how the man ended up dead there.
Medical Examiner to Determine Cause
The Allegheny County Office of the Medical Examiner will perform an autopsy to determine the official cause and manner of death, according to the Allegheny County Office of the Medical Examiner. The office handles violent or unexplained deaths and will release its findings once the examination is complete.
Local Context
Zone 5 detectives regularly handle some of the city's most serious incidents across Pittsburgh's northeastern neighborhoods. Earlier this year, officers from the same zone responded to a fatal stabbing on the 7200 block of Hilliards Street, as reported by the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette in February. That case is among several recent violent investigations the unit has pursued.
As of about 8:30 p.m. Sunday, police said no additional information was immediately available, according to CBS Pittsburgh. This story will be updated as officials release more details.
