An unidentified person’s body was pulled from a pond at North Woodmere Park on Tuesday morning, and Nassau County police have opened a homicide investigation. Officers recovered the person from the water after a report of someone seen floating, and a Nassau County police medic pronounced the person dead at the scene. Authorities have not released the person’s identity as detectives continue to process the area.
As reported by Daily Voice, officers were called to the park at about 11:05 a.m. after a caller reported an unknown person floating in the water. Responding officers recovered the body, and a Nassau County Police medic confirmed the person had died. The Nassau County Police Department’s Homicide Squad has taken over the case and says the investigation remains active.
Where It Happened
North Woodmere Park is a 150-acre Nassau County facility on the South Shore, with the county’s parks site listing the location at 750 Hungry Harbor Road. According to that listing, the park features a nine-hole executive golf course, a driving range and multiple recreation fields. The pond where the recovery took place sits inside the public park area that locals use for walking and fishing.
Scene and Reaction
People arriving at the park on Tuesday reported finding a heavy police presence as detectives worked the scene. A post on the r/longisland subreddit described coming in with a child and seeing “Nassau PD all over the area,” and linked to local coverage of the recovery. Investigators have not released any additional information about how or why the person died.
Context and How to Help
Bodies recovered from Long Island waters are sometimes treated as possible homicides, and the county’s Homicide Squad routinely asks the public for tips in those cases. In a similar incident in April 2025, Patch reported that officers recovered a youth’s body near an Island Park dock that was later investigated as a homicide. As noted by LongIsland.com, the Nassau County Police Department’s Homicide Squad can be reached at 516-573-7788 for anyone with information.
The investigation at North Woodmere remains ongoing, and Nassau County detectives say they will release updates when more information is available. We will update this story as officials provide new details.
