Boston Children’s Hospital’s Longwood Avenue campus was searched Thursday evening by the Boston Police Department’s bomb squad after the hospital reported a bomb threat. Police later declared the scene safe. Hospital operations were not reported to be disrupted long term, no injuries were reported, and investigators say they are reviewing the call as hospital staff and patients returned to normal activity.
According to Boston 25 News, the bomb squad responded to the reported threat and gave the hospital the "all clear" after completing a sweep. A hospital spokesperson told Boston 25 News that police determined there was no active threat and that the hospital is "committed to ensuring the hospital is a safe and secure place for everyone."
Past threats and prosecutions
Boston Children’s has been targeted before. Federal prosecutors say a Westfield woman pleaded guilty in connection with a hoax bomb threat tied to the hospital in 2022. The U.S. Attorney’s Office press release states that investigators swept the facility during that episode and later used call records and other evidence in the case.
Hospital response
The hospital thanked law enforcement for an "immediate response" and said it will continue to coordinate closely with police and its own security teams, as reported by Boston 25 News. Boston Police have not released details about the caller or any suspect, and the investigation remains active.
