
A massive commercial blaze ripped through a Boyle Heights building near downtown Los Angeles on Wednesday, drawing a heavy Los Angeles Fire Department response and sending a thick plume of smoke over the neighborhood. Flames were reported tearing through the roof of the single-story structure at 1400 S Los Palos Street.
According to an alert posted on X by the LAFD, the incident was logged as Structure Fire Inc#1019 at the 1400 block of S Los Palos Street. Firefighters were operating in an offensive mode while fire showed from the roof. The department’s notice listed multiple engine, truck and battalion units among those responding, and placed the incident inside Council District 14.
Fire Tears Across Huge Roof, Triggers Heavy Response
In its alert, the LAFD described the structure as a roughly “1000 ft x 500 ft single story commercial building” and noted that units from Fire Station 25 were among those on scene. The alert named battalion chiefs, engines, trucks, ambulances and specialized rescue units as part of the response, with firefighters working on the roof to keep the flames from spreading into the interior.
Site History and Context
The 1400 block of S Los Palos Street has seen major fires before. In August 2024, crews fought a large blaze that involved rooftop solar panels and was contained after a heavy response.
