A graduation celebration in Boynton Beach turned into a crime scene Sunday when a man was stabbed four times and rushed to a trauma center, according to CBS12. What started as a small post-party cleanup ended with one guest in critical condition and another facing an attempted murder charge.
Officers were called to 109 NW 6th Avenue after reports of a stabbing. When they arrived, they found the victim with multiple stab wounds to his torso and back, according to CBS12. He was trauma-alerted and taken to Delray Medical Center for surgery, where he remains in critical condition.
Argument Over Cleanup Turns Bloody
Witnesses, with some statements translated from Creole, told detectives the violence started when a guest asked 37-year-old Olguens Michaud to help clean the front yard, according to CBS12. Michaud allegedly refused, saying, "I'm a boss, I don't need to clean." Another partygoer replied, "You are a boss, but you don't bring anything," a comment witnesses say angered Michaud enough that he left the gathering.
Minutes later, Michaud came back and flashed an unknown object, then lifted his shirt and moved toward the victim, according to CBS12. Witnesses told police the victim tried to shield himself with a plastic chair but was stabbed four times. Michaud later admitted holding a beer bottle and taking responsibility for the wounds, according to CBS12.
Arrest, Hospital And Next Steps
Police say Michaud initially escaped on a bicycle. A police K-9 tracked his scent to a nearby relative's home, and officers took him into custody when he returned with a cut above his left eye, according to CBS12.
He was booked into the Palm Beach County Jail on a charge of attempted second-degree murder. County detention and booking are administered by the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office.
The victim was treated at Delray Medical Center, a major acute-care hospital in Delray Beach that handles trauma cases. The hospital describes its trauma services and campus details on its website at Delray Medical Center.
Police Ask For Witnesses
Boynton Beach Police are asking anyone with video or information about the stabbing to contact the department or send a tip online, according to the Boynton Beach Police Department. Investigators say cellphone footage and eyewitness accounts could help them piece together what happened in the moments before the attack.
Legal Notes
Michaud remains in custody on an attempted second-degree murder charge as the case moves through the county court system. Prosecutors will determine the schedule for his initial appearance.
