Police are asking for the public's help tracking down a man wanted in connection with a stabbing in the Bronx last weekend, after what started as a verbal dispute turned violent at a neighborhood corner.
According to investigators, on Saturday, June 20 at about 7:26 p.m., a 27-year-old man was at the northeast corner of Valentine Avenue and East 187th Street when he got into a verbal dispute with another man. During that clash, the victim was stabbed in the right arm. The attacker, described only as an unidentified male, then took off, heading southbound on Valentine Avenue.
The case is featured in a "Wanted for an Assault" bulletin posted by NYPD Crime Stoppers on June 26. That alert includes images detectives hope will help put a name to the face and notes that the suspect displayed a knife before the stabbing and ran from the scene afterward.
The city's Crime Stoppers program says tipsters may be eligible for up to $3,500. Information can be shared anonymously by calling 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or, for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782). Tips can also be submitted through Crime Stoppers. Authorities are especially interested in any video or photos from the area that could help move the investigation forward.
Where it happened
The northeast corner of Valentine Avenue and East 187th Street sits in the Belmont section of the central Bronx, a neighborhood anchored by Arthur Avenue and Fordham Road. East 187th Street is one of the area's key commercial corridors, according to the NYC Department of City Planning.
How to help
NYPD Crime Stoppers has been pushing out a number of similar assault bulletins this month, and local outlets have been keeping tabs on those appeals. One recent case involved a subway guard who was struck with a cellphone, an incident covered in Subway Guard Attacked, which also stemmed from a Crime Stoppers post.
Anyone with information about the stabbing near East 187th Street is urged to contact the NYPD Crime Stoppers hotline or submit a tip online. Calls are anonymous and may be eligible for a cash reward, and tip submission options are detailed on Crime Stoppers.
