Sunday morning in Cypress Hills took a sharp turn from quiet to chaotic when a car barreled into the entrance of a Chase bank on Fulton Street, leaving five people injured and a busy Brooklyn block covered in debris.
What Officials Say Happened
The FDNY responded to a report that a vehicle had struck the entrance of a Chase bank at 3373 Fulton Street, with four people taken to nearby hospitals and a fifth person refusing medical attention, according to WABC. Video obtained by Eyewitness News appears to show two heavily damaged vehicles along Fulton Street, with a large presence of police and firefighters crowding the scene.
Bankfront Takes the Hit
The crash tore into the storefront area of a Chase branch on Fulton Street. Chase's branch locator lists a Cypress Hills location at 3380 Fulton Street, close to the reported crash address, according to Chase. Sidewalk and storefront damage can be seen in video from the scene, while first responders cleared the block and worked around the shattered facade to assist the injured.
Cops Probing the Cause
Officials did not immediately say what led to the vehicle slamming into the building or whether any criminality might be involved, and the NYPD opened an investigation, according to WABC. Investigators were expected to pull surveillance video and speak with witnesses as they work to piece together how the crash unfolded.
