Castle Resorts & Hotels has stepped back into a familiar role at Lahaina Shores Beach Resort, taking over operations for the condominium association and front-desk nearly three years after the August 2023 wildfire that shattered much of Lahaina. The company says it is rolling out a push to grow the resort’s rental program as part of a broader effort to bring visitors back to downtown Lahaina.
According to Pacific Business News, Castle acquired the Association of Apartment Owners (AOAO) contract along with front-desk operations at the oceanfront property in a recent company announcement. Castle Resorts & Hotels, which already manages a broad network of condo-hotel programs across Hawai'i, will handle reservations, housekeeping and on-site owner services, the company says.
The timing is not accidental. Lahaina is still clawing its way back from the August 2023 blazes that devastated the historic town, destroyed thousands of structures and displaced residents and businesses, according to AP. Limited visitor services are slowly reappearing in West Maui - for example, boat tours and harbor operations have resumed as repairs move forward, per reporting by Hawai'i Public Radio.
What Castle Is Taking Over
Per Pacific Business News, Castle’s agreement covers the day-to-day management of the AOAO and the front desk, and the company says it plans to expand the condo rental program to pull more owner units into a managed pool. That transition will put Castle in charge of on-site guest services and the reservations engine, while individual owners and the association keep working through repairs and regulatory compliance.
Owners, Insurance And The Road Ahead
Owners at Lahaina Shores and the AOAO have spent the post-fire years deep in insurance claims, repair work and permitting. State testimony filed during 2025 legislative briefings noted that some Lahaina Shores units were still inoperable months after the blaze, as shown in State testimony. Even so, real-estate listings and property pages show units continuing to hit the market, a sign that the resort remains very much part of Maui’s recovery discussion, per listings such as Redfin.
What Visitors Should Know
Lahaina Shores is one of the rare properties with direct beach access along Front Street, which gives it outsized weight for downtown accommodations and those classic sunset-view stays. Oyster highlights the resort’s true beachfront setting. Castle’s management could help speed the return of more overnight rooms and, in turn, funnel business to nearby shops and restaurants. Still, county rules on burn-zone access, cleanup and permitting are likely to dictate the pace of any full reopening, according to Maui County updates.
Castle distributed its Lahaina Shores announcement through company channels and said its initial focus will be front-desk and AOAO management, paired with ramping up the rental program, per Castle Resorts & Hotels. From there, the pace of downtown Lahaina’s lodging comeback will hinge on owners, would-be guests and county permitting decisions as restoration and compliance work continue.
