An attempted escape on an electric bike in Centennial ended quietly when Arapahoe County Sheriff's deputies arrested a 43-year-old man wanted on felony drug warrants near East Peakview Avenue and South Uvalda Street. Authorities identified the suspect as Eric Tengan and said he fled on an electric bike before abandoning it and surrendering without incident.
According to the sheriff’s office, members of the Special Investigations Unit first tracked Tengan to a hotel in the 13000 block of E. Briarwood Ave. The agency said the Special Response Team and Patrol Team 2 then moved in to help with the arrest. Deputies reported no injuries and said Tengan ultimately gave himself up near the intersection where the search ended.
The Arapahoe County Sheriff's Office shared details and photos from the scene on social media under the all-caps banner "🚨 captured 🚨," noting that Tengan had active felony warrants for "dangerous drugs and distribution" and is 43 years old, according to the Arapahoe County Sheriff's Office. The post also stated that the electric bike was left behind before deputies took him into custody and that booking information was not yet available.
E‑bikes and high‑powered electric motorcycles have increasingly shown up in crime reports across the country, particularly in getaways and theft cases. Some models can hit speeds more in line with small motorbikes, which complicates pursuits for patrol officers who have to balance safety, speed and policy. Reporting from other jurisdictions has noted the same pattern; FOX13 Seattle and a national roundup of recent incidents have documented similar challenges and prompted agencies to adjust tactics.
Warrants And The Law
Under Colorado law, unlawful distribution, manufacturing, dispensing or sale of controlled substances can be charged as a felony, with penalties that vary based on the drug schedule, quantity involved and any aggravating factors. The state’s Uniform Controlled Substances Act sets out felony levels and sentencing ranges for distribution offenses, which prosecutors use when determining potential charges, according to Justia.
The arrest remains under investigation and will move through Arapahoe County's standard booking and charging process. As the case proceeds, public court records and filings will spell out any formal charges and upcoming court dates.
