Neighbors in Northeast Washington, D.C., are processing a frightening scene after police found a wounded minor several blocks from where officers first responded to reports of gunfire.
Officers with the Metropolitan Police Department initially went to the 4300 block of 12th Place NE for a shots-fired call and found evidence that a shooting had taken place there, but no victim was located at that spot, according to DC News Now. A short time later, an injured child was discovered conscious and breathing in the 1100 block of Varnum St. NE and was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
DC News Now reports that investigators remained on scene after the victim was transported, working to piece together how the shooting unfolded between the two locations.

Per the Metropolitan Police Department, the investigation is active, and detectives are asking anyone with information to contact the department.
