After a decade of salads and grain bowls on Metairie Road, City Greens is calling it quits at its Old Metairie shop. The location at 600 Metairie Road will serve its last customers on Friday, closing the book on ten years of feeding neighborhood regulars and busy lunch crowds. The company says its other City Greens locations will stay open.

According to New Orleans CityBusiness, the chain shared the news in a Facebook post, writing, "This was not a decision we made willingly, but we are choosing to walk out of this chapter with full hearts and good memories." The message thanked "regulars who became friends" and pointed customers toward the downtown and airport locations. New Orleans CityBusiness also noted that City Greens opened a spot at Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport in 2019, while the Elmwood location closed after the pandemic in early 2021.

Local Roots And A Decade On Metairie Road

City Greens got its start in New Orleans in 2012 and arrived in Old Metairie in June 2016 as the brand's third location, according to Tulane University. The founders built the concept around fresh, fast-casual salads and an on-site hydroponic farm that supplies some of the produce. Over the years, the chain carved out a niche with build-your-own bowls, pressed juices and a focus on locally sourced ingredients.

What’s Next For The Space

The Old Metairie storefront sits in a small retail center that has long mixed boutiques, studios and eateries, and commercial listings now show the space at 600 Metairie Road marketed to potential tenants. Property listings and leasing pages highlight the building's tenant mix and available square footage, according to CommercialCafe. For regulars, the closing is one more sign of turnover along the Metairie Road corridor.

City Greens' Old Metairie location will shut its doors on Friday, and the company has asked for a little gratitude and understanding as it winds down service. Diners can still find City Greens at 909 Poydras St. downtown or inside Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport.
